Counsellor Papa Kwamena Amo, affectionately called Mr. Smooth, a marriage and relationship counselor has advised the youth against the abuse of Emergency Contraceptive Pills and abortion.
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus. An abortion that occurs without intervention is known as a “miscarriage” or “spontaneous abortion” and occurs in approximately 30% to 40% of pregnancies according to statistics. When deliberate steps are taken to end a pregnancy, it is called an “induced abortion”. The unmodified word abortion generally refers to an induced abortion, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year in the world, there are an estimated 40-50 million abortions. This corresponds to approximately 125,000 abortions per day. According to WHO’s worldometer’s counter, as at 10:45am on Sunday, 19th of September, 2021, abortions committed worldwide was 30million and over.
Speaking on the Gospel Drive Morning Show on Ahomka FM and Ocean 1TV, Tuesday 15th September, 2021, Mr. Smooth said that, to him, abortion is murder, therefore, if someone aborts a pregnancy the person has committed murder.
“I see abortion as murder. If you know the process of carrying out an abortion, you’ll scream. If the baby isn’t matured, the woman is served with poison to kill the feotus. Sometimes salt solution (brine solution) is used in shredding the foetus into pieces then it’s extracted through the vagina. If the baby is somehow matured, Cervical Dilators are used to dilate the cervix, forceps are used to crash the head, and Embryotomy Scissors is used to cut off the head, arms and legs and it’s pulled out. If the baby is fully matured, the woman is given a medication that will push her to force labour, sometimes the babies are delivered alive, then they’re disposed off. So, this process is scary, very very scary. It isn’t something that any young lady should dream of doing. If you’re not ready, use a condom or abstain”, he said.
Touching on emergency contraception which is widely used by ladies to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex, Mr. Smooth cautioned that child bearing will be a problem for them in the future, which may even leave them barren.
“… and to those who use Postinor 2 to prevent pregnancy, pregnancy will be a problem for them later. Postinor 2 is supposed to be taken twice a month, so those who take it whenever you’re going to have sex, your menstrual cycle will start going off the normalcy, and it will stop, then you’ll bear a child for us to see. It’s emergency!, sos it isn’t something that you take whenever you’re going to have sex”, he cautioned.
Emergency contraception is a way to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It works by delaying ovulation (the release of an egg during the monthly cycle). If fertilization and implantation have already happened, ECPs will not interrupt the pregnancy.
