A renowned journalist in the Central Region with Ahomka FM and Ocean 1tv, Daniel Ashong has said that the opinion leaders of Ghana should switch their focus from Fmr. Presidnt John D. Mahama’s “Do or Die” comment and center it on the country’s development.
The 2020 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, on his “Thank You” tour made a comment that has sparked a national dialogue with some Ghanaians accusing him of instigating supporters of the NDC to violence.
Mr. Mahama in a radio interview in Techiman in the Bono Region during the second phase of his Thank You Tour, charged supporters of the NDC not to loose guard in the 2024 elections, because lessons have been learnt from happenings during and after the 2020 elections. Therefore, 2024 elections is going to be a Do Or Die affair for the NDC. “We have learnt our lessons from happenings during the 2020 polls. The 2024 election will be a win or lose at the polling stations. It will be do-or-die at the polling stations”, he said. “The right thing must be done during the polls. We will win the elections at the polling station and won’t wait for the collation center results nor petition the Supreme Court if aggrived”, he added. ”
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Sector Reform Secretariat, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo has advised, the NDC youth not to pay heed to the do-or-die intent of Mahama but rather to channel their efforts to the government’s Planting For Food and Jobs inniitiative and other social interventions that will help them secure jobs for themselves instead of being used as tools of violence. He further urged those at the school going age to enroll in schools under the Free SHS policy.
Speaking on “Truth To Ghanaians” show on Ahomka FM and Ocean 1TV, the host, Daniel Ashon, said that Ex President Mahama’s “Do-or-Die” statement is not anything that calls for panic because the Ghanaian youth is sensible enough not to indulge in violence in election 2024. He suggested that the leaders should rather shift their focus from holding press brifeings aimed at addressing the Do-Or-Die statement, an action he believes is leading to crippling the country and stalling development. He made refference to the country’s under infrastructured health facilities, schools under trees, poor road networks, among others.
